West Tisbury has two quaint town hubs and both are located on State Road which begins in Vineyard Haven at Five Corners and takes you all the way to the Aquinnah Cliffs.

The first town hub you come to when driving up State Road from Vineyard Haven is the North Tisbury area where you’ll find the West Tisbury post office, Conroy’s pharmacy, up-Island Cronig’s, Fella’s Take Out, Vineyard Gardens, Heather Gardens, Beetlebung Tree Care and Landscaping, and Oakleaf Garden Center for all your landscaping needs, the esteemed State Road Restaurant, hair salons, Banks, Art Galleries and antiques, wellness and Yoga Studios, Martha’s Vineyard Glassworks, the much talked about Dumptique which is very much an Island thing, and much more.

Essentials: The Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School, the West Tisbury police Department and Public Safety Building, the West Tisbury Library, Up-Island Cronig’s grocery store.

Drive further up State Road and you come to Polly Hill Arboretum, a botanical landmark featuring 60 acres of woodlands, rare trees & native flowers, and worthy of a stop. Drive a little further and you come to Panhandle Road and the West Tisbury Agricultural Hall, home to the Annual Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Fair, and the annual Labor Day and Thanksgiving Vineyard Artisans Festivals.

The second town hub, is near the West Tisbury Town Hall and the Grange Hall which is the venue for the summer West Tisbury Farmers Markets as well as the Summer Vineyard Artisan Festivals. In this area you’ll find Alley’s General Store, 7A Foods, The Field Gallery – home to Thomas Maley’s large white dancing statues and a variety of contemporary art and summer art shows. Next door is the West Tisbury Library which has a wonderful array of programs and events and children’s activities. Up-Island Automotive is the last stop to get gas on your way to Aquinnah and where you can get great deals on gas on Sundays in the off-season. A short distance after the the gas station and you cross into Chilmark.

Another key road in West Tisbury and often overshadowed by State Road, is Old County Road, with bike paths along the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest, The Granary Gallery also known as the Red Barn – home to some of the finest international and local art you can find, Misty Meadows Equine Center, the West Tisbury Elementary School which is part of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional School District, and serves 300 +/- students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
